Lost Friend

So many times I've called you a friend
Only to be stabbed once again.
I know that, to confide in you,
Means giving you all I defend.

I could never see the truth
Through those unrevealing eyes.
Their dead shade of gray
Would only reveal the lies.

And I know all you ever wanted
Was all that I'd ever need
The desire you had to rule my world
And, above all else, to succeed.

You broke me down to confusion and sadness
And tore my world apart.
Now I see you for all that you are
And it wasn't worth losing my heart.
